Today’s contemporary furniture designs provide hundreds of ways to decorate your home or office in style. As with modern furniture, contemporary design means functionality and simplicity, being comforting without being cluttered and dark. Clean lines and smooth texture help create your space a quiet retreat.
The color palette of contemporary furniture generally includes neutrals, black and white with bright and bold color used sparingly to accent certain pieces. If the furniture is upholstered, the fabric used is generally of a natural look. Common fabrics used with this type of furnishings include linen, wool, cotton and silk.
Most contemporary furniture should accentuate a simple and uncluttered room, without any curves or decoration. Beds and sofas should have no skirt or ruffles and even the designs of the sheets should be basic and spare – no florals! Most tables, chairs, and sofas should have exposed legs that make cleaning around the furniture a breeze.
